- INGREDIENTS
- Each mL contains: Sodium Sulfadimethoxine 333 mg, solvent added to 1 mL.
- DESCRIPTION
- Sulfadimethoxine is normally bactericidal against many gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms such as Corynebacterium, Escherichia coli, Clostridium necrophorum, Bartonella, Salmonella and Streptococcus. Sulfadimethoxine achieves its blocking action by affecting bacterial purine synthesis. Sulfadimethoxine is contraindicated in animals that are hypersensitive to sulfonamides, have severely impaired renal or hepatic function, or suffer from blood disorders.
- Administration and dosage
- Subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. General: 3-6 ml per 10 kg body weight on the first day, 3 ml per 10 kg body weight on the following 2-5 days.
- Side effects
- 1.Sulfaguanidine and its metabolites may precipitate in the urine. Prolonged use tends to lead to crystallization, causing crystalluria, hematuria and renal tubular obstruction.
- 2.Adverse reactions in dogs include dry eye, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, fever, hives and polyarthritis. Prolonged treatment may also lead to hypothyroidism.
- 3. In cats: loss of appetite, leukopenia and anemia.
- 4. For horses: intravenous injection may cause temporary paralysis, oral administration may cause diarrhea.
- 5. Sulfonamide injection is alkaline solution, intramuscular injection has strong irritation to tissues.
- Precautions
- 1.This product will precipitate crystals when mixed with acid, therefore it should not be diluted with 5% dextrose solution.
- 2. Prolonged or heavy use may result in crystalluria, therefore sodium bicarbonate and large amounts of water should be used concurrently.
- 3. If any allergic reaction or other serious adverse reaction occurs, the drug should be stopped and treated immediately.
